Introducing La Maleta, that is, the suitcase.
La Maleta is a series of coffee releases showcasing our very favourite coffees from our travels.
Quantities are limited.
(Limited enough to have been brought back from origin in a suitcase - maybe, maybe not).
While most of our coffee releases are purchased with a seasonal purchasing philosophy, being that, we will return to purchase the coffee and support producers each crop cycle - occasionally, a one-off coffee appears that we can’t turn our noses up at. Limited, obscure, special, finite - one time tasting party. La maleta.
The first coffee is an extended fermentation from Finca El Rubi in Santuario which tastes like Blackcurrant Jelly, Manuka Honey and Rooibos Tea. Red-fruit forward, complex, unmissable. It’s everything that you’d want from a washed Colombian plus an extra little razzle dazzle.
We have 30 bags of El Rubi available. Order while you can. Coffee will be roasted and dispatched in 10-14 days.
Last winter I was fortunate to visit a producer association called Asocafé Tatamà Santuario, Risaralda with RawMaterial
The small producer association is made up of around 200 members who collectively push towards selling their harvests into specialty markets. Raw Material have been working with Asocafé since 2017, and through facilitating longterm relationships with specialty buyers they have been able to ensure that the association’s producers are paid consistent, profitable prices.
The association generally aim for high quantity yields, but this small, experimental release from El Rubi is an example of just how exceptional the coffee from Santuario can be.
The efforts of Asocafé Tatamà Santuario are headed up by Edier Ramos, who has worked tirelessly to build the association into what it is today; and, fittingly, this coffee was produced by his Father, José Nabor, on one of their earliest farm projects at Finca El Rubi.
